IQNA – A former Iranian diplomat hailed the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the genocide case against Israel, saying it meant the international isolation and defeat of the Zionist regime’s supporters.

Speaking to IQNA, Mohsen Pakayin added the ruling is important in undermining the position of the Zionist regime.

In a much-anticipated interim ruling on Friday in a case filed by South Africa against the Israeli regime over genocide in the Gaza Strip, the ICJ issued provincial measures, which need further follow-ups.

It signaled a major victory for the South African side that created history by dragging the Tel Aviv regime to the top UN court based in The Hague.

In a 45-minute ruling, ICJ judge Joan Donoghue rejected the Benjamin Netanyahu regime’s claim that the UN court lacks jurisdiction to hear South Africa’s genocide case against it.

Pakayin said the ruling is a strong one that has not been issued with political purposes.

It has isolated and angered the supporters of the Israeli regime and their diplomatic failure is evident in the stances they have adopted, he added.

He referred to the 16 votes at the court against Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, and said the United Nations and world countries that are dissatisfied with the current situation in the Gaza Strip should take diplomatic measures to ensure the implementation of the ruling.

He said pressures in the Israeli regime should continue and the world community should guarantee the ruling’s implementation.

An important point here is that the ICJ has referred the case of genocide to the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is tasked with tackling cases of organized crimes like genocide, Pakayin noted.

He said the ICC is taking up the case in a few days and if it issues a ruling, which is very likely, it would put more pressure on the Tel Aviv regime.

Moreover, the diplomat said, other countries such as Bangladesh, Mauritania, Djibouti, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Mexico, have entered the field and said they want to present their evidence to the ICC.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pakayin deplored the ineffectiveness of the UN Security Council in stopping the Israeli aggression against Gaza Strip that has claimed lives of more than 26,250 people, mostly women and children, since October 7.
